What joining us in Tenerife is (and is not)

From 22 September 2026: Tenerife. Travel-with-us means joining breathwork and yin by ocean and Teide, not a hotel package. Who takes the leap?

Black volcanic Tenerife coast at golden hour, Atlantic waves and Teide in the distance

Black stone. Atlantic swell. And a date: about 22 September 2026, Tenerife.

Early September we are still on Karimunjawa. The boat. Warm air. Island days. Tenerife is still a horizon, not a floor under our feet. Join us Tenerife is already a real question. Not "will you ever land somewhere again?" More: who temporarily joins breathwork and yin by ocean and Teide, once we live there.

This is not an India story. Dharamshala is over. One destination. One window. An invitation through travel with us. Who takes the leap.

Traveling with us to Tenerife is temporarily joining Tessa and Johannes: breathwork and yin yoga in nature on a volcanic island, from about 22 September 2026 until at least early November. Not a packed retreat. Not a hotel package. Duration and rhythm agreed together.

What joining us in Tenerife is (and is not)

Travel-with-us is temporarily joining our life: breathwork, yin yoga, and presence in nature, with duration and rhythm in conversation.

Travel with us
Travel with us means temporarily joining Tessa and Johannes: breathwork, yin yoga, and presence in nature, with duration and rhythm agreed together. It is not a packed retreat programme and not a hotel package.

On Tenerife that looks like lava under your feet, salt in the air, Teide as a silhouette. We work there. You come for a week, two weeks, or longer. We talk first. No automatic booking. No all-inclusive timetable.

What it is not needs to be sharp. No packed India-style retreat with five sessions a day. No resort smoothie bar and a photo call at 07:00. No brochure "yoga Tenerife week". If you want a tight programme, first read what a retreat actually is, and whether that fits better than joining us.

Tenerife as a setting is a volcanic island in the Canary archipelago, with the Atlantic and Teide as landscape. From about 22 September 2026 until at least early November this is where Spiriators lives and works.

We write this while the bags are still open. On purpose. Too many travel posts act as if the sun already hits their new balcony. You plan leave, tickets, childcare. Those things like real dates, not mood lighting.

From Karimunjawa to Tenerife: the actual calendar

Early September 2026 we are still here. Javanese sea. Different smells. Different routine. Tenerife starts around 22 September. This piece looks ahead. It does not pretend we already sit on black basalt with a blanket and a cork mat.

Why it matters: joining us is a timing question. You plan leave, tickets, a child, a job. We move a life. If you want to land in week 37 while we are still in transit, that will not fit. If you have two weeks in October, that can be a conversation.

Johannes writes dates in a notebook, not a marketing calendar. Tessa checks what yin needs: shade, wind, a place where you can stay eight minutes in a pose without a guide shouting the next one. Tenerife breathwork is the same craft as elsewhere. Only the floor changes.

If you have followed longer, you know the wider story of working from anywhere. This post is narrower. One island. One date. One leap.

Karimunjawa gave us warm nights and a slow tempo. Tenerife gives Atlantic wind and a mountain that stays in the corner of your eye. Two islands. Two climates. Same work: stay present. If you follow us because you want to land somewhere, this is the moment to ask whether your runway in October can sit on Canary ground.

Tenerife breathwork: ocean as metronome, not a score

Tenerife breathwork is conscious breathing in a landscape that already breathes: swell, pause, swell.

Sit or stand on lava. Pick one line of waves. In for four. Out for six. Five minutes. Done. No app scoring you. If you want timing practice before you fly, use the free breathing timer at home. On the island the ocean is enough.

People ask if nature is "proven". A review of nature-exposure therapies found signals for less stress, low mood, and anxiety. Honest bit: the review itself says support is limited as a primary treatment. Tenerife does not cure clinical anxiety. It is a setting. Your nervous system does the work, or it does not.

Contact with nature links to emotion regulation in another review. Associations. Mixed studies. No RCT on volcanic islands or on our breathwork. You should hear that before you buy a ticket.

After flying: first hour, shoes off. Feet on stone or sand. Three long exhales. That is landing. Not a jet-lag protocol. Just arriving. The airport smells like perfume and fries. The coast smells like salt. Your body notices faster than your head.

Pro-tip: Pick one line of waves and stay with it. If your eyes shop the whole bay, your breath shops too. One strip of water is enough.

If you want breathwork as a craft, not only a holiday, read the breathwork guide and how breathwork coaching looks later, one to one, without an island. Tenerife is not a substitute for coaching. It is a floor. Sometimes the floor is exactly what you need. Sometimes the floor is too big and you want a room, a screen, an hour.

Virtual coastal images can shift stress signals in the brain, according to EEG research with coastal images. Limit: students, screens, not a field study on Tenerife. If a photo of waves already does something, real basalt may be louder. Expectation is not a guarantee.

Canary Islands yoga: one pose, horizon, eight minutes

Yin with a view is one pose of eight to ten minutes, face to the horizon, without a full class.

No vinyasa flow for the camera. No "class at 09:00 sharp". Tessa puts a mat on stone or sand. You sink. Wind does what wind does. Sometimes it is too windy and we move. That is life, not a glitch in the programme.

Online Yoga Nidra can touch subjective well-being and cortisol patterns, according to a randomised trial. Limit: it was online, not outdoor yin on Tenerife. Cortisol graphs are not proof that joining us "works". They only say rest practices can do something in the body. On the island you feel whether eight minutes in a pose fits. Unsure about yin at all? Try the yin check first.

More on how yin and breath sit together is in yin yoga and breathwork. If you want to know how to choose a retreat at all (packed or not), read how to choose a retreat that truly fits you. Joining us is a different kind of choice. Less timetable. More conversation.

Teide horizon scan: stand still. Let your gaze run from nearby basalt to the mountain silhouette. Breath follows. No visualisation script. No "imagine your roots". Just look until your neck softens.

Canary Islands sounds like holiday to some people. For us it is a workplace. Sun is nice. Wind is hard on candles and on knees that feel cold. We do not promise endless soft weather. We promise we will look where the mat can lie.

Who takes the leap (and who should practise at home)

Write one sentence. What you want to leave behind. What you do not want as a packed programme. That is the intake. Not a packing list.

Joining us fits if you can stand a day that is not cut into 45-minute blocks. If you are okay with wind, late lunch, a session that moves because the bay is crowded. If you want yin yoga in nature, not in a hall in the Netherlands.

It does not fit if you want a guarantee you come back "done". Not if you want a hotel package. Not if you think we already sit on Tenerife. We leave later this month.

Sometimes the honest path is first an piece on what a retreat is, or a thirty-minute introduction. No automatic booking. A talk about timing, duration, what fits.

No price in this piece. The leap starts on the page, not in a cart. If you have followed for years and keep saying "someday", someday can have a date. October 2026 is such a date. Not forever. Not vague. A window until at least early November. Then we look again.

Pro-tip: If your hunger for "programme" is bigger than your hunger for "joining", do not book travel-with-us. Book something with a schedule, or practise at home until your body needs less schedule.

Home practice is not failure. Sometimes it is smarter. An island does not make you quiet. It makes quiet louder. If you do not want to hear that, stay. If you do, write.

Key takeaways

  • From about 22 September 2026 until at least early November we live on Tenerife. In early September we are still on Karimunjawa.
  • Joining us in Tenerife means breathwork and yin in nature, duration by agreement, not a hotel package and not a packed retreat.
  • Ocean breath: one line of waves, in four, out six, five minutes. Yin: one pose, eight to ten minutes, horizon.
  • Nature studies support rest. They do not prove Tenerife travel-with-us as a treatment.
  • Apply via travel with us and a conversation, not automatic booking.
  • Unsure about yin: do the yin check before you fly.

If the black stone and the date stay with you, open travel with us. Read slowly. Who takes the leap, writes. Who is not ready, stays. Both are an answer.
