What is breathwork coaching, in short?
Breathwork coaching is 1:1 guidance where you breathe consciously with a coach — often connected breathing or a rebirthing-style session — then briefly integrate what came up. Body-based work plus conversation: not a solo YouTube exercise and not talk therapy alone.

What is Breathwork Coaching?
Breathwork coaching is personal 1:1 guidance where Johannes works as breath coach and transformation coach. Through connected breathing or rebirthing you reach what talking alone cannot — and where needed coaching follows to integrate: patterns, relationships, work, addiction. The difference with standalone breathwork techniques: here guidance and integration are the product.
Connected breathing takes you outside your normal thought patterns. Emotions, memories and tension that you normally hold on to start moving. That can be intense. That's why good guidance is essential.
Johannes works with connected breathing and rebirthing. He holds the space, adjusts the pace when needed, and helps you land what is released. No technique to perform. But a powerful process to feel and let go.
Breathwork is the tool. Breathwork coaching is how you work with it safely and deeply — with integration, within our method. Effective as support; not a quick fix.
What is Rebirthing?
Rebirthing (also called rebirthing-breathwork) is a specific form of connected breathing, originally developed in the 1970s by Leonard Orr. The core: you breathe in a continuous, circular flow — without pause between inhale and exhale — usually for 45 to 60 minutes. That breaks the normal breath rhythm and brings the nervous system into an altered state where deeply held tension, emotions, and even early childhood experiences can surface.
The name does not refer to literal birth re-experience (though that sometimes happens), but to the idea that you can 'breathe' old, fixed patterns in body and breath until they release. Scientifically, rebirthing falls under the broader umbrella of connected breathing; effects on stress, emotion regulation, and the autonomic nervous system have been shown in research on slow and conscious breathwork (Zaccaro et al., 2018; Fincham et al., 2023).
Johannes works with rebirthing as one of several entry points — not as a standalone 'journey' but embedded in a coaching process. Which form we use (rebirthing, connected breathing or gentler techniques) depends on your nervous system, your question, and what is safe at that moment. Please read our contraindications below before starting.
What does a breathwork coach do?
A breathwork coach (sometimes called a breathing coach or breath coach) guides you through conscious, connected breathing — not as a technique, but as a doorway into your nervous system, your emotions and what lies beneath the surface. The difference with breathing alone on YouTube: a coach holds the space, reads your body and adjusts the pace the moment it becomes too much or too little.
Concretely, a breathwork coach does three things: (1) create a safe container where you can let go, (2) guide in real time during the session — physically and emotionally, and (3) help you integrate what surfaces. That last step is where support goes deeper: without integration a session often stays intense; with integration it can land as change in daily life.
- What is integration (after breathwork)?
- Integration is the landing process after a breath session: making sense of, anchoring and bringing into daily life what was alive. Without integration a session often stays intense; with integration it can land as concrete change — pace differs.
A good breathwork coach is not a therapist and not a guru. But someone who has worked with the breath for years, is trained to read subtle signals, and is honest about what breathwork can and cannot resolve.
For Whom?
Breathwork coaching is for you if you:
- Experience stress, anxiety or burnout
- Recognize relationship patterns that repeat
- Feel emotional blockages or addictive urges
- Are exhausted, out of balance
- Want something different, but don't know what
When Breathwork Coaching Is Not (Yet) The Right Fit
Connected breathing is a powerful technique — and exactly for that reason not safe for everyone at every moment. When in doubt, always consult your doctor or therapist.
- —Untreated heart or vascular disease, severe hypertension or recent surgery.
- —Epilepsy or history of seizures — strong breathing can be triggering.
- —Pregnancy — only with adapted, gentle techniques; no intensive rebirthing.
- —Acute psychosis, unregulated bipolar disorder or severe dissociation — stabilize first with your therapist.
- —Under the influence of alcohol or recreational substances — counterproductive and unsafe.

How Does It Work?
Breathwork coaching is not a standalone session, but a guided process. This is what it looks like in practice.
Free introduction (30 min)
We speak via video. You share what's going on and what you hope to achieve. We honestly explain what breathwork coaching can and cannot do. No sales pitch — just clarity on whether this is the right step for you.
1:1 sessions (60 min)
You lie comfortably. Johannes guides you through connected breathing or rebirthing. Emotions and tension are allowed to surface. He holds the space, adjusts the pace, and helps you land what is released. No performance, but depth.
Integration
After the session we take time to discuss what happened. You receive concrete tools for home. The real work often happens in the days afterward. That's why we usually work with multiple sessions — so what comes up can actually land.
Inside a breathwork session
A breathwork coaching session lasts 60 minutes and follows a clear arc — not to push you into a format, but to give your nervous system something to lean on. We begin with a short check-in: what's alive right now, where are you with it, what do you need today? No long intake; just sharp.
Then you lie down. Johannes guides you through connected breathing — a continuous, round breath without pauses. In the first minutes your thinking mind moves into the background. After 10 to 15 minutes something often shifts: tingling, emotion, images, sometimes tears or laughter. Nothing you need to 'do' — everything that was already waiting to be felt.
The last 10 minutes you land. Silence, a blanket, water. Then we take time to briefly name what happened — coaching where it helps, no analysis for analysis' sake. So you can keep tracking it in the days that follow. Many people only really notice the effect 24 to 72 hours later: calmer sleep, longer fuse, more space in the chest.
A single session can already shift something. For support that lands deeper we usually work in a series of 3 to 6 sessions — so integration and home practice also get room. No guarantee of 'lasting change', but a realistic rhythm.
Breath opens, Coaching deepens
Breathwork sets things in motion. Johannes combines breath with transformation coaching — so you don't only experience, but also integrate. That is the difference between feeling something and getting support to land it in your life.
Stress & unease → breath helps you land back in your body
Relationship patterns → breath can reveal what you're holding
Addictive urges → breath can interrupt the cycle (alongside care)
Burnout-phase → breath supports calm and recovery from tension
Breath is the tool. Good coaching shapes how deep and supportive the effect can land — not a guarantee, but the difference with breathing alone on YouTube.
Scientific Foundation
Breathwork is not woo-woo — it touches measurable physiology. Conscious breathing invites your vagus nerve (parasympathetic / rest). In research and practice we often see better HRV and lower stress markers; that can support leaving chronic 'on' mode. Not a medical cortisol or cure promise — support for stress, unease and overload.
- What is the vagus nerve?
- The vagus nerve is the primary rest nerve of your parasympathetic system. Conscious breathing — especially with a long exhale — invites it, so HRV can rise and your nervous system can leave chronic stress. Supportive; not treatment of a diagnosis.
Stephen Porges' polyvagal frameworks (regulation language, not a medical model) show that felt safety in the nervous system is the base for recovering from tension — whether you face stress, trauma-context, a burnout-phase or addictive urges. Breath is one of the fastest ways to support that safety. More background: our breathwork guide and the blog on connected breathing & your nervous system.
Breathwork coaching makes the difference between an intense experience and support you can take with you: guidance + integration, so you don't just feel something, but can work with it.
